SUMMER PROGRAMMING 2010
University of Missouri-St. Louis is offering a Girls’ Leadership Camp June 21-23, 7:30am to 4pm. Campers will explore nontraditional and traditional careers and fields of study. Campers will engage in leadership exercises to increase their skills, knowledge and abilities for future success. Registration deadline is June 1, 2010. There are only 125 openings. The cost is $195. Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville is offering a Summer Residential Program. Session 1 will be offered from June 7-11 and Session 2 will be offered June 14-18, 2010. If you are a current freshman or sophomore who is interested in science, technology or engineering this is may be for you. The cost is $300. Please see Mrs. McMurray in C109 for application. Deadline for application is April 23, 2010.
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale is offering the 27th Annual Challenge to Excellence Summer Program. This program is for academically talented (scoring in the 90th percentile or higher on achievement tests) students and will focus on higher level thinking skills in math, science and creative writing. The program is from June 20-25, 2010. The cost to stay on campus for this 5 days is $375. If you are a current freshman or sophomore who is interested in participating in this program, please see Mrs. McMurray in C109. Deadline is May 21, 2010.
Eastern Illinois University is offering it’s 25th annual Leadership and College Prep Camp. It will be held from July 11-17, 2010. If you are a minority student who is currently a sophomore or junior with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better then please apply. The cost is only $20 and this is a residential camp. You must complete the application and have two letters of recommendation by April 30, 2010. If you would like further information, please see Mrs. McMurray in C109.
St. Louis University is offering Adventures in Science and Medicine (AIMS) summer workshop. It will be held on June 28-July 2, 2010 with surgical procedures July 12-16, 2010. The program will run from 8am to 3:30pm. You must be a current sophomore, junior or senior to participate. Participants are chosen on basis of academic promise, leadership potential and demonstrated interest in science and medicine. United States Military Academy at West Point is offering a Summer Leaders Seminar. These sessions offer a concentrated week of academic, athletic, military, and social experiences at West Point. Session 1 runs from May 29-June 4, 2010. Session 2 runs from June 5-11, 2010. The cost is $350. You must provide your own transportation to and from West Point. Washington University, located in St. Louis, Missouri is offering 3 different summer programs.
- High School Summer Scholars Program is a program to get a head start on college during the summer following your sophomore or junior year. You can earn up to 7 units of college credit. - Young Writers Institute is an opportunity to study with working writers and receive helpful guidance on poetry and prose. You can earn 3 college credits. Enroll in the two week workshop in June following your junior or senior year. For further information, visit www.youngwriters.wustl.edu

Purdue University is offering a FREE daylong event called “Juniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue”. It will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 from 8am-4pm at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Illinois State University is offering a Minority High School Scholars Actuarial Academy for minority high school students who excel in Math. It’s a great opportunity to learn what actuaries do and if it’s the career for you. This is a FREE opportunity. You must apply by April 1, 2010. George Washington University in Washington D.C. is offering a Pre-College Program for students 9-11th grade. Session 1 will run from July 7-16, 2010 and you may select from the following topics: Biomedical Engineering, Election Politics, Crime and Justice, Photojournalism and Writing the City. Session 2 will run from July 21-30, 2010 and you may select from the following topics: U.S. Foreign Policy, Going Green: Service and Policy, Theatre: Onstage and Off, Robotics and Women’s Leadership. Murray State University is offering the Commonwealth Honors Academy from June 5-26, 2010. You will receive six hours of university studies credit and have the opportunity to gain a scholarship to attend Murray State University. To apply, you must have a composite ACT score of 25 (or equivalent on the SAT, PSAT or PLAN) and a 3.5 GPA. You must also be 16 years old and have completed your junior year prior to June 5th. Harris-Stowe State University, located in St. Louis, Missouri is offering a Science and Mathematics Academy June 27-July 31, 2010. It is a residential, academic intense, pre-college program for students who will be attending Harris-Stowe in the fall of 2010. Final date to apply is May 1, 2010.
