On February 10, 2012, the Belleville East Library hosted the Abe Lincoln Birthday Celebration to promote the 2012 Abraham Lincoln Illinois High School Book Award. Activities included an Abe Lincoln Dress-up Contest and a special invitation birthday party for the BE Library’s Top 50 Readers. A total of 19 students entered in the Abe Lincoln Dress-up Contest for a chance to win a Kindle Fire eReader and tablet. The competition began with photographs and campaigning in the library before school. During lunch, the entire student body, faculty, and staff were invited to vote for their “Favorite Abe” and check out the Abe Lincoln books
on display. A special VIP area was set up for Belleville East’s top 50 readers where they celebrated Abe Lincoln’s birthday with cupcakes and soft drinks. The cupcakes were prepared for the event by Ms. Natalie Czyz and her Culinary Arts classes. After the last vote was counted, Joel Sarmiento was Belleville East’s Favorite Abe and winner of a Kindle Fire. Every student that dressed-up received a gift certificate to The Daily Grind compliments of the Belleville East DECA Club. In addition, every student that voted was entered into a drawing for door prizes. Twelve students were the lucky winners of $10 gift cards to Barnes and Noble.
