Announcements for Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Today is the first Friday of December and some of our students and staff have entered BEAST mode.  How does one accomplish this, you ask?  Well, it starts when they BELIEVE in themselves and strive to EXCEL in everything they do.  They ACHIEVE the goals they set for themselves and therefore, SUCCEED.  However, most of all, they TRY their best.  So you have to ask yourself, do you have what it takes to be a BEAST in the classroom? ~ BELIEVE Team

Today is the kick off to our “Make a Change” fundraiser.  Please consider helping your fellow classmates in financial need this holiday season!  Remember, any class that collects $250.00 or more will be rewarded with a pizza party.  Any class with 15 or less students needs to collect $125.00 to be eligible for a pizza party.

Our students at Belleville East are full of character.  Here is a story of 2 Belleville East sisters that we helped several years ago. The definition of CARING- Being compassionate and showing others you care.

These 2 girls embody the meaning of CARING.  They both always came to school smiling, completed homework, earned good grades, treated others with kindness, and found a way to be active and a part of their school.  One of the girls confided in a teacher that her mom had lost her job which led to the loss of their home.  They were currently living with a family member and struggling day to day.

When these girls were approached and told that we would like to help them during the holiday season, all they were concerned about was their mom and making sure that she could have some clothes to go on job interviews.  They weren’t concerned about themselves, just making sure that their mom was ok.  We were able to help their mom get clothes and other personal items.  We also made sure these 2 CARING young ladies had a great Christmas! ~ Mrs. Seneczyn

Make a change: Here is a story of a Belleville East student we helped several years ago.

Perseverance- Staying with a task; not giving up. This student was raised by a single mother who had made some really bad decisions. When the student started high school, his mother was addicted to drugs and lost their home. They had to live in a homeless shelter.   Due to the severity of his mother’s addiction, he eventually moved in with an aunt who lived in our district. The student worked hard at school and was extremely grateful to his aunt who already had 3 children of her own. Talk about perseverance!!!!

Through the Make a Change Program, we were able to assist this young man by supplying him with school supplies, dress code clothes, gift cards, a space heater, and a few fun gifts to help lift his spirits! He was sincerely grateful and couldn’t say thank you enough!

We appreciate all your donations! Tomorrow is the last day to donate to be eligible for classroom pizza parties!

DAY 2- MAKE A CHANGE

EMPATHY- Identifying and understanding others feelings in order to get along better.

What better way to be show empathy to your peers than to donate this holiday season. Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes is one of the best ways to show compassion and understanding.

HERE IS A STORY OF A BELLEVILLE EAST STUDENT THAT WE HELPED SEVERAL YEARS AGO.

THIS YOUNG MAN WAS EXTREMELY LIKABLE. HE WAS POLITE, TRIED HARD, AND WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE OTHERS FEEL GOOD. THE ONE THING THAT NONE OF US KNEW WAS THAT HE WAS LIVING IN A HOTEL ROOM WITH 5 OTHER SIBLINGS, A PARENT, AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE THAT SORT OF CAME IN AND OUT.

EXACTLY, A HOTEL ROOM WITH JUST 2 BEDS!

HE NEVER COMPLAINED, JUST FELT SAD SOMETIMES AND ASKED FOR A LITTLE HELP SOMETIMES.

WE WERE ABLE TO ASSIST THIS YOUNG MAN SO THAT HE COULD HAVE A CHIRSTMAS. HE WAS ABLE TO PICK OUT SEVERAL GIFTS FOR HIMSELF AND FOR HIS SIBLINGS!

THANKS FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE! WE APPRECIATE ALL DONATIONS! TALK TO YOUR PARENTS AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH AS A SCHOOL, THEY MAY BE INTERESTED IN DONATING AND DEMONSTRATING EMPATHY THEMSELVES! ~ Mrs. Seneczyn

Make a Change – Day 4

Integrity- Doing what is right even if it is difficult.

Here is another example of a Belleville East student we helped several years ago.

This young lady was neglected and mentally and physically abused by her mother. She was able to keep a smile on her face and passing grades despite her awful home life. In even the darkest times, she demonstrated INTEGRITY. She quickly formed a relationship with an adult here at East. Eventually, this young lady was removed from her biological mother’s home. This was a long, difficult, and emotional process. When she was placed in foster care, although she was in a safe environment, she still carried several wounds with her.     The Holiday Charity Committee was able to surprise her with generous Christmas gifts and personal items for her new room to help lift her spirits and show that we cared. This young lady was very grateful and ended up graduating and going to college.

THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HAS DONATED THIS WEEK!! WE ARE HOPING THAT WE CAN GIVE SEVERAL PIZZA PARTIES!!!! SOMEONE WILL BE AROUND TO COLLECT ENVELOPES THIS HOUR.
